PSV vs. Manchester United: Louis Van Gaal's Key Comments from Pre-Match Presser
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants his team to start the UEFA Champions League campaign on the right foot, telling reporters that while he would consider a draw against PSV a solid result, he wants to win on Tuesday.
As shared by the club's official Twitter account, he said:

The Red Devils will celebrate their return to Europe's top club competition at the Philips Stadion on Tuesday, taking on Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven. Van Gaal brought summer signing Memphis Depay with him for his press conference ahead of the match, as the Dutch international spent his entire senior career in Eindhoven before moving to Old Trafford.
Memphis told reporters how special an occasion it will be for him, to play against his old team-mates, before cheekily admitting he plans to break with the tradition of not celebrating should he score against his former club:
The Red Devils are coming off a big win against rivals Liverpool and looked very strong in the final play-off round of the Champions League against Club Brugge, so big things will be expected on Tuesday. On paper, PSV are not among the top clubs in Group B, with Wolfsburg seen as United's fiercest competitors for the top spot.
Van Gaal has no intention of underestimating his compatriots, however:
The Dutchman started his managerial career with Ajax, one of PSV's top rivals in the Netherlands, and there's a good chance Van Gaal could receive a less-than-warm welcome by the home fans on Tuesday. He believes that won't be the case thanks to the great work he did with the Dutch national team, however, via Full Time Devils:
Turning to the squad he'll field for the first Champions League match, he dismissed rumours he could be rotating his goalkeepers, per the Press Association's Paul Hirst, with David De Gea expected to retain his spot in goal.
Anthony Martial made his debut for United against Liverpool, scoring an impressive goal late in the match to seal the win, and with Wayne Rooney certain to miss the match with an injury, per the Independent's Jack De Menezes, the young Frenchman could be in line to make his first start against PSV.
Van Gaal wouldn't confirm who would start at the striker position on Tuesday, although he did reveal the 19-year-old has made a solid impression on him so far:
United didn't feature in last year's Champions League due to the disastrous 2013-14 season under David Moyes, when the club finished in seventh place, and a number of young starters will be making their Champions League debut, including Memphis and Luke Shaw.
PSV's situation isn't very different, however, returning to the competition after several seasons in the Europa League, so both sides will have to battle nerves.
On paper, the Red Devils should comfortably beat the Dutch champions, who lost a ton of attacking production when Depay left, but in European competition, nothing is ever a given.
With six group-stage matches to play, Van Gaal will likely use Tuesday's match as a learning experience for his younger stars, and a draw wouldn't be a bad result at all.
