Real Madrid Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo Price Set Amid PSG Bid Rumours

Real Madrid have named their selling price when it comes to Cristiano Ronaldo—a cool €1 billion (£730 million).

That's according to Los Blancos president Florentino Perez, who—in the wake of a reported bid of £110 million for the Portugal international from Paris Saint-Germain, per Globo Esporte (h/t ESPN FC)—has stated that only a staggering 10-figure sum would be enough to pry Ronaldo away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

"If PSG want Cristiano Ronaldo it's simple: They have to pay the €1 billion release clause," Perez told Spanish radio (via Callum Davis of the Daily Telegraph). "No one is a prophet in football, but we don't want to sell him in 2016. He still has three years left on his contract."

Ronaldo is the world's finest footballer in the eyes of many and, despite a slow start to the 2015-16 season, remains the key player in this Real Madrid team. As WhoScored.com shows, it only seems to be a matter of time before the Portuguese gets his La Liga goal tally up and running this season:

But there have been some rumours of discontent recently. As reported by AS (h/t the Daily Telegraph), it was suggested in pre-season that Ronaldo was disappointed with the training methods of new manager Rafael Benitez. The forward was unhappy with a drill in which the players were asked to hit the bar from range.

Indeed, the 30-year-old forward also took to social media earlier this year, putting his support for Benitez’s predecessor Carlo Ancelotti on record before he was relieved of his duties:

There has often been talk of unrest when it comes to Ronaldo, who doesn't make much of an effort to hide his emotions. But overall he seems contented to be at Real Madrid, where he continues to post staggering goal tallies and challenge for the biggest honours around.

If he is to leave Real before he reaches the twilight of his career, you suspect Ronaldo will have to push for it. For a player of his quality, there will always be new challenges to tackle and plenty of lucrative gains to be made—two things that PSG would certainly be able to provide, as the flush French champions go in search of Champions League glory.

But as noted here by bwin, there are still some accomplishments Ronaldo has yet to achieve in the iconic all-white jersey:

PSG may come again for Ronaldo, and they represent a tantalising proposition for a player who has achieved it all in Spain. But for the French giants, the Madrid man would be a short-term fix; that money would be better served being invested in younger players and the club's infrastructure and, critically for a club under the financial fair play microscope, toward facilitating growth.
