Real Madrid Transfer News: David De Gea 'Obliged' to Sign Manchester United Deal
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea reportedly feels “obliged” to sign a new contract with his club in order to play for Spain at Euro 2016, the latest setback for Real Madrid in their hunt to secure the signature of the Spain international.
According to AS' Tomas Roncero, De Gea and his agent Jorge Mendes have agreed he can't afford to sit out the final season of his contract, as United manager Louis van Gaal might choose not to play him, which in turn would hurt his chances with the national team:
"De Gea’s agent Jorge Mendes is setting the wheels in motion to ensure that the keeper’s torment comes to an end. The two met on Tuesday and reached a mutual decision. De Gea’s contract will expire in June but the problem he has now is remaining active.
Mendes has already held meetings with United executives and has urged them to resolve De Gea’s situation. The player feels he is now obliged to renew terms with Manchester United, given that Van Gaal will keep him benched unless he agrees to accept the club’s offer to amplify his contract which they proposed last season.

The 24-year-old was on the verge of moving to Real Madrid on Monday, but the deal fell through at the last minute because the required paperwork didn't make it to the authorities in time. Both clubs released statements blaming the other side for the debacle, and the relationship between Los Blancos and the Red Devils has soured, via Sky Sports.
De Gea is yet to play a minute of Premier League football this season, with summer signing Sergio Romero starting for United while De Gea has watched from the stands. Spanish national team coach Vicente Del Bosque has already sent out a warning to the stopper regarding playing time, via football writer Liam:
Compatriot and team-mate Juan Mata believes De Gea will be professional and continue to do his job, via BT Sport, but no one knows for certain what to expect when he returns from the international break.
De Gea will have a decision to make, and given everything that has transpired in the past few days, it could have major repercussions. If he decides to play out the final year of his contract, he could miss out on the chance to start in goal for Spain at Euro 2016, with Iker Casillas in strong form early in the season.

Alternatively, he could sign a new deal with United, giving up control over his future. That would greatly complicate a transfer to Madrid, however, given the controversy of the past days and the tension between the two sides that has since surfaced.
Marca's Jose Felix Diaz believes De Gea holds all the cards, but if he does, it won't last. United will engage in discussions regarding the player's future, but Van Gaal could easily make the decision to bench him to force his hand.
Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe doesn't believe it will come to that, however:
De Gea knows the best thing he can do right now is keep his head down and play. His failed move is a setback, but it shouldn't wipe out a year of his playing career and ruin his chances for Euro 2016.
Likewise, the Red Devils will want him to play, as he's by far the best goalkeeper Van Gaal has in his squad. De Gea gives United the best chance to contend for silverware in 2015-16, and even if he doesn't sign a new deal, you have to assume the club would care about winning enough not to let this saga impact their decisions too much.
We probably won't know what De Gea's intentions are anytime soon, unless Van Gaal does decide to bench his star goalkeeper. But a contract renewal shouldn't be ruled out and looks far more likely than it did last week.
