DeAndre Jordan Parts Ways with Agents Dan Fegan, Jarinn Akana
According to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan is moving on from Dan Fegan and Jarinn Akana, his representatives at Relativity Sports. It's the third such move Jordan has made since beginning his NBA career in 2008-09, per Turner.
Although Fegan helped broker the four-year, $88 million contract Jordan signed with the Clippers this past summer, the relationship between the two parties looked fractured after Jordan agreed to terms with and ultimately spurned the Dallas Mavericks.
ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne and Tim MacMahon were among many to report Jordan didn't allow Fegan into his home on the night he signed with the Clippers.
"We stayed away from the Fegan issue," said J.J. Redick in July, per Adi Joseph of Sporting News. "From what I heard, there was some frustration, but DeAndre and Fegan will sort that out."
Another storyline from the whole saga was Fegan's working relationship with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, a point he disclosed to Jordan at least twice, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein, and whether that had any impact on Jordan's first agreeing to terms with Dallas.
Stein and Shelburne cited their colleague at ESPN, Chris Broussard, who reported Jordan "had become disenchanted with Fegan, believing he purposely misled Jordan and manipulated the situation to get him to go to Dallas."
Cuban and Chandler Parsons were the two most vocal Mavericks representatives regarding their frustration with Jordan's about-face. ESPN.com's Arash Markazi didn't believe Fegan did enough to help his client avoid some of that backlash:
Taking all of that into account, it seemed Relativity Sports' days were numbered as Jordan's agency.
Jordan will likely be very selective with whom he chooses as his new representation. More marketing opportunities were among the topics the Clippers pitched to Jordan as they attempted to convince their center to stay in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Times' Ben Bolch and Broderick Turner.
Seeing that through will be among the top tasks for Jordan's next agent(s).
