Kevin Norwood to Panthers: Latest Trade Details, Comments and Reaction
The Carolina Panthers landed wide receiver Kevin Norwood in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced on Monday, sending Seattle an undisclosed 2017 draft pick in the deal.
"Kevin gives us another player to compete at the wide receiver position," general manager Dave Gettleman said, per Panthers.com's Max Henson. "He has the size you look for along with toughness and smarts. We studied him a lot going into last year’s draft and we look forward to having him as part of our receiving corps."
Norwood, 25, caught nine passes for 102 yards during his rookie season with the Seahawks, appearing in nine games. He may find more targets in Carolina, however, where rookie Devin Funchess and Corey Brown lead a mediocre group of receivers for quarterback Cam Newton, who lost top option Kelvin Benjamin for the season to a torn ACL.

The Panthers have been beset by injuries at the position across the board, with Funchess dealing with a hamstring injury and Jerricho Cotchery battling through groin issues. Meanwhile, Brown has struggled in the preseason, with six drops in his last two games, per David Newton of ESPN.com.
With the wideout position in flux, Norwood has the opportunity to potentially earn a starting gig if he impresses. While the Panthers likely brought him aboard to provide the team with depth at what has become a very shaky position this summer, Norwood could carve himself a bigger role with Carolina before the regular season opens.
