Josh Scobee to Steelers: Latest Trade Details, Comments and Reaction
Josh Scobee's 11-year run with the Jacksonville Jaguars is over. According to Adam Caplan of ESPN, the Pittsburgh Steelers agreed to send a sixth-round pick in exchange for the Jaguars' longtime kicker.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and ESPN's Adam Schefter (h/t 1010 AM/92.5 FM) first passed along the news. Scobee, 33, has spent each of his 11 NFL seasons in Jacksonville after being selected in the fifth round in 2004. He was by far the longest-tenured veteran on the team and among the longest in the NFL as a whole.
"This was easily the toughest decision that we’ve had to make in our time here," general manager Dave Caldwell said, via Ryan O'Halloran of Jacksonville.com.

Scobee harbored no ill-will toward the Jaguars when discussing the trade, per Gene Frenette of Jacksonville.com.
"There’s no feelings of being hurt on my part because I understand it’s a business," Scobee said. "People get older and things get more expensive. Businesses tend to find things cheaper and younger. That’s just how it works. There’s no guarantees with anything."
The Jaguars' decision to move on from Scobee means they'll be turning over the position to rookie Jason Myers, who was a four-year starter at Marist College. Myers connected on four of his five preseason attempts, including a long of 55 yards.
"Jason's done a great job here," Caldwell said, via O'Halloran. "The only thing he's missing is really the experience, and he's going to get that through this process. This is a young guy that we can grow with as a team and as a franchise."
Scobee hit on both of his preseason attempts and made his three extra-point tries. He is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career, as the veteran made 20 of his 26 attempts in 2014. For his career, Scobee has knocked down 80.8 percent of his field goals while remaining a largely solid option on longer kicks.
In Pittsburgh, Scobee will be the third kicker of the Steelers preseason. Starter Shaun Suisham suffered a torn ACL earlier in August, and his replacement, Garrett Hartley, went down with a hamstring injury last week. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Hartley doesn't "look positive in terms of the opener," via Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (h/t NFL.com).
CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora provided context for the move:
While Scobee is not necessarily a Pro Bowl-caliber talent, the Steelers were desperate, and he represents a best-case scenario. At the very least, the team knows it will have someone who will stay on the field. Scobee has played in all 16 games in 10 of his 11 seasons, including the last seven.
Given Pittsburgh's recent luck at the position, Scobee's health alone was reason enough to make the move.
