Liverpool Transfer News: Latest on Lazar Markovic and Fabio Borini Rumours

Matt JonesAug 30, 2015

Liverpool midfielder Lazar Markovic has completed his loan switch to Fenerbahce after undergoing a medical with the Turkish giants.

The Serbian international leaves Anfield temporarily in order to get some first-team football and finalised his transfer on Sunday, per Fenerbahce's official Twitter feed:

Although the 21-year-old looks to have a long-term future at Anfield, this temporary deal is one that has divided the Liverpool fanbase.

It’ll get Markovic some crucial minutes on the field. The winger was in and out of the Liverpool team throughout his debut season with the club, never really getting a regular run of games and never afforded an extended run of matches in a settled position. Needless to say, his performances were inconsistent.

As noted here by The Redmen TV, with Liverpool taking part in a lot of different competitions this season, there would have surely been time for Markovic to get some games under his belt:

However, a prolonged sequence of matches seems unlikely for the Serbian and while the division may not be to quite as high a standard as the Premier League, in Turkey he’ll be able to settle into a rhythm. In addition, the physical nature of the Turkish Super Lig will ensure Markovic returns to Merseyside a much more battle-hardened character.

But if Liverpool do go far in the Europa League and other cup competitions, a squad bolstered by an influx of summer additions could quickly become thinly spread should injuries or suspensions take their toll. As such, it’s a gamble from manager Brendan Rodgers letting a talent like Markovic leave and a decision that could easily come back to haunt him.

Internazionale Bid For Fabio Borini

The departure of Fabio Borini seems an inevitability at this stage of the transfer window and Serie A giants Internazionale have made a £6 million bid for the Liverpool forward, according to Sky Sports.

Borini has been a massive disappointment since he signed for the Reds during Rodgers’ first season in charge of the club. He’s failed to nail down a regular spot in the first XI and during his stint as a Liverpool player, his most impressive days came when he was on loan at Sunderland.

As noted here by Anfield Chat, the sum being offered by Inter is a lot less than what the Black Cats wanted to pay to bring Borini to the Stadium of Light on a permanent deal:

Some would say Borini deserved credit for wanting to stick around at Anfield last summer and fight for his place, despite the big offers on the table. But given he was told that first-team opportunities would be at a premium, per Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo, it could easily be construed as a naive decision on the part of the player.

Five starts in the entirety of last season suggests so, and Borini joins a long list of Italians to have flopped on Merseyside, as noted here by Steve Wilson of BBC Sport:

The chance to join Inter is one the player surely won’t turn his nose up at and although it’s not a sum as substantial as the Reds were set to recoup for Borini last summer, they’ll be glad to get anything back for a player who is surplus to requirements.

For the forward, it’ll surely represent a dream come true playing for the Milan giants and Serie A is a league that is much more suited to his talents. He’ll face a fight to get in an Inter team that is rife with attacking talent should a deal go through, but opportunities look much more attainable with the Nerazzurri than with Liverpool.
