Everton have completed the signing of River Plate Montevideo striker Leandro Rodriguez, who moves to Merseyside on a four-year deal, per the Blues' website.

The 22-year-old moves to the Premier League after scoring 20 goals in 78 appearances for River Plate Montevideo over the past three years.

Prior to Friday's announcement, Everton manager Roberto Martinez spoke highly of Rodriguez's ability, outlining the player as someone with "incredible potential," per the official Everton website:

"

He is a young striker playing for River in Uruguay. We will find out more over the next three days. We might be able to say something ahead of the weekend.

Leandro is someone with an incredible potential that will fit in very well with that group of players that we identify to have the quality to reach the first team very soon.

He has played enough games with River in an unknown league but one that is very competitive. If you look at the amount of strikers that have come through those environments, you would be surprised at the quality of those players. He is a player we can be excited about.

"

Rodriguez will have a difficult time displacing first-team strikers Romelu Lukaku and Arouna Kone, who have already enjoyed some bright form this season and netting five goals between them.

The Toffees will hope Martinez is correct in his assessment of the player, who completes his move prior to Everton's clash at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
