Real Madrid Transfer News: David De Gea Furious with Louis Van Gaal, Top Rumours

Rob BlanchetteAug 24, 2015

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is said to be angry with club coach Louis van Gaal after the manager claimed he will not sell the player to Real Madrid before the transfer deadline.

Manu Sainz of AS says the two individuals "haven't spoken for months," with their working relationship completely broken down. However, despite Van Gaal's stance, the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, is confident of taking the Spain international to Madrid before Sept. 1.

Van Gaal has consistently tried to distance himself from De Gea's probable exit from the club, often becoming irked by questions about the goalkeeper in his press conferences:

However, LvG was more direct in his wording before United's recent goalless draw against Newcastle United, citing his player would not be sold, after addressing why he opted against signing Pedro from Barcelona, per Richard Jolly of ESPN FC: "I think when Manchester United wants a player he shall come, [apart from] when a club is not selling. Okay, then it is the same with us. We are not selling De Gea. It's the same."

It was this statement which has shocked De Gea, but the player's representation has assured him this is part of the transfer process, per Sainz.

Manchester United's Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea (centre right) sits in the stands ahead of the English Premier League football match between Manchester United and Newcastle United at Old Trafford in Manchester, north west England, on August 22, 2015.

LvG had previously claimed the goalkeeper was not ready to feature for United while his head is turned by Madrid, as reported by the Independent's Tom Sheen.

Van Gaal's claims angered United supporters, who have previously given their unequivocal backing to the Spaniard during his rise from promising kid to world-class entity.

The manager has often had a fractious relationship with players and the press, with the Manchester Evening News' Samuel Luckhurst citing Dutch journalist Peter Zantingh in speaking about Van Gaal's strange approach and left field manner: "The match you saw and the match he saw can be very different ones. Mr. Van Gaal is perfectly comfortable declaring that a 0-3 loss at home to Sunderland was his team’s best game all season, just because his players were doing what he told them to do. It’s not always about what ends up on the scoreboard."

Van Gaal tends to see things from his viewpoint, and it is unlikely De Gea will stay at the club now the coach has severed their relationship—and with Los Blancos calling.

The Spaniard has chosen to stay silent during the speculation of his future, so it will be interesting to hear if he publicly objects in the coming days due to his disappointment with the manager.

United are certainly a weaker team without De Gea, but Van Gaal has stubbornly refused to play him. Last year, the goalkeeper earned 11 clean sheets in the Premier League, per Squawka.com, but United are yet to concede a goal in their opening league games of the season.

Whether United can cope without DDG over the course of the campaign is yet to be seen, but the goalkeeper will certainly strengthen Madrid during a time of transition under new coach Rafael Benitez.

Sergio Romero has yet to make a mistake, but he doesn't have the intensity of the Spaniard. His communication skills are not in the same bracket as De Gea's, and he certainly isn't world class.

If De Gea gets his wish to move before Sept. 1, Van Gaal will need to act quickly in the transfer market and find a player who is truly worthy of the No. 1 shirt.

However, United's loss will be the Galacticos' gain, with De Gea looking certain to return to his hometown if he gets his way and departs Manchester.
