Chelsea Transfer News: Paul Pogba, John Stones Bids Eyed in £100m Rumours

Rory MarsdenAug 20, 2015

Chelsea are reportedly set to make a £60 million bid for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba as manager Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his squad further following the signing of Pedro.

According to David Woods in the Daily Star, Pogba is being lined up as the Blues' next target ahead of the closure of the transfer window and the Chelsea are confident of signing him up if "the Italians are prepared to let him go for £60 million."

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly not prepared to go above £60 million, but Juve's interest in Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado could be used to the Blues' advantage.

However, according to GianlucaDiMarzio.com's David Amoyal, the Colombian will have little bearing on negotiations:

Pogba is one of the most sought-after players in the world and would be a spectacular addition to an already-strong Chelsea squad.

The 22-year-old is not only a powerhouse in defence, but he is a significant threat going forward and his distribution skills would make him a fine asset in west London.

Chelsea have not had the best of starts to the new Premier League season in their title defence, but the addition of Pogba would arguably make them hot favourites once again.

Similarly, the acquisition of Everton's John Stones would bring much-needed depth to the centre-back region.

After three failed bids, the Blues are now reportedly lining up a £40 million swoop for the English defender, per Woods.

While Everton would certainly benefit from such a windfall, it seems that the Merseyside club are not prepared to negotiate over their talented 21-year-old, per BBC Sport's Phil McNulty:

However, things could change with the England international reportedly on the verge of handing in a transfer request, per Tony Little in the Sun.

As Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe noted, Chelsea have significant sway in the transfer market and the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge are eager to bring Stones in:

With that in mind, and with Stones prepared to hand in a transfer request, the young defender could well be a Chelsea player before the transfer window closes.

Mourinho's men have looked underwhelming early in the season, but the addition of Stones and Pogba would be a serious statement of intent as to their aims for the term.

It would both prove they are still one of the most capable teams in the world in terms of the transfer market and make them a force to be reckoned with both domestically and in Europe.
