5 Leicester City Players for Tottenham Hotspur to Watch out for This Weekend

Sam RookeAug 20, 2015

Leicester City have made a perfect start to the season.

Their wins over West Ham and Sunderland have been impressive.

Scoring six goals in just two games belies manager Claudio Ranieri's reputation and has given them a significant cushion against what had been expected to be relegation rivals.

Tottenham now travel to Leicester almost as underdogs following their less than perfect opening to the season.

Spurs are on the verge of trouble and know from their three meetings last season that Leicester are not to be trifled with.

The Foxes have named an unchanged lineup through the first two weeks of the campaign as the same key men have performed in both matches.

Marc Albrighton

1 of 5

Marc Albrighton was a sensation in his early days at Aston Villa but badly lost his way. Exiled to Wigan and then finally released, his career was at a crossroads.

So far this season, Albrighton has racked up three assists and added a goal to his tally. He has been a key part of the attack but also played his role in Leicester's defensive solidity.

As he told the Leicester Mercury, he's "getting to where I want to be."

Spurs struggled to deal with Stoke's width last weekend, and Albrighton is more than capable of exposing them once again.

While he is not their best player, he's one that makes them tick and has been vital to their consistent form from the end of last season.

If Tottenham don't deal with Albrighton, he could be decisive.

Shinji Okazaki

2 of 5

Shinki Okazaki has been a reliable goalscorer throughout his career in Germany and Japan. He's been a deadly weapon for the Blue Samurai and has now translated that to the Premier League.

His first goal was an instinctive finish, and he will carry that threat against Tottenham.

It would be easy to overlook the former Mainz and Stuttgart attacker, but he will be dangerous.

Okazaki is slight of stature but quick and capable of exposing clumsy defenders. He draws fouls cleverly, and Jan Vertonghen must be cautious.

If not, Okazaki will expose him and offer up dangerous opportunities for set pieces.

Riyad Mahrez

3 of 5

Riyad Mahrez is Leicester City's main man.

A mazy runner, creative and skillful, Mahrez would walk into Tottenham's team.

The Algerian wide man has three goals already in this campaign (from nine shots) and has proven himself right at home in the Premier League.

The speedy winger has terrorised better defences than Spurs', and they will need to be at their best to keep him at bay.

Equally at home on the left and right, Mahrez is difficult to prepare for. He is the biggest single reason that Leicester sit level atop the Premier League.

Tottenham must stop his brilliant run of form.

Jeff Shlupp

4 of 5

Jeff Schlupp made his presence well known when he faced Tottenham last season.

He has pace, power and a great football brain. He knows when to break forward to cause maximum panic in the opposition's ranks.

A winger in the youth ranks at Leicester, Schlupp is now the prototypical Premier League full-back.

His development has mirrored that of Spurs' own Danny Rose, and Schlupp enjoyed a similarly successful 2014-15 season.

Playing in behind Mahrez, Schlupp is highly effective at using the space that the Algerian opens up to make a nuisance of himself.

Schlupp is a weapon on the counter and provides deadly width when Leicester are able to dominate possession.

Gokhan Inler

Perhaps a surprise inclusion on this list is Leicester's new signing, Gokhan Inler.

The Swiss veteran has yet to make an appearance for his new club but possesses great quality and poise.

While Ranieri will be loathe to change a winning lineup, Inler will provide a cool head from the bench, and his boss will be able to turn to him if he feels Tottenham are taking control of the midfield.

Inler also loves a long-range screamer and, while he is not prolific, he could dig out a late strike if the Foxes need it.
