Chelsea Transfer News: Huge Anthony Martial Bid Revealed, Latest Rumours

Matt JonesAug 20, 2015

Chelsea have reportedly had a staggering €55 million (£39.18 million) bid for Monaco forward Anthony Martial rebuffed.

That’s according to a piece from Javier Matallanas of AS, who cites reported interest in the Monaco man from Valencia. In his article, it’s claimed that while Martial was available last summer for €28 million (£19.95 million) now he’s hot property, and the Blues did their utmost to test the resolve of the Ligue 1 club with a massive offer.

Here’s a look at why there is so much hype about the 19-year-old forward:

Martial certainly has all of the tools to go to the very top. The ex-Lyon man is a physical presence in the final third, but he possesses blistering speed and excellent technical qualities, too. Martial has also showcased his versatility for Monaco, operating on both flanks and through the middle.

In addition, as noted here by WhoScored.com, the Frenchman is one of the very best young goalscorers anywhere in European football:

It’s unclear when the offer was made by the Blues, but reports emerged a day after Martial showcased his talent against Valencia with an impressive display, even though Monaco did eventually lose 3-1 on the night in the Champions League qualifying match.

Chelsea would be an attractive proposition for the young striker. But at this embryonic stage of his footballing development, getting regular game time is much more crucial than challenging for major honours. At Monaco he’s doing exactly that, and while the principality club have sold off big players in recent seasons, they seem intent on keeping hold of Martial.

The Blues have some fine young forward players to call upon in their academy anyway, most notably Dominic Solanke and Isaiah Brown. While the Frenchman has more experience than both, there are Blues fans who would rather see their own prospects get a chance instead of splurging circa £40 million on someone else’s.
