Chelsea Transfer News: Pedro 'Convinced' by Jose Mourinho Call, Latest Rumours
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho played a critical role in the club’s imminent capture of Barcelona winger Pedro, with reports suggesting the Blues boss made a personal call to the 28-year-old to grab him from Manchester United's clutches.
As reported by Matt Barlow and Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail, the Portuguese made a “personal intervention” to try and convince Pedro to join the Blues at the expense of the Red Devils. It’s said the call to the Spain international was vital in the player opting for Stamford Bridge over Old Trafford.
Here’s a glimpse at what Chelsea fans can look forward to from their potential new signing:

Reports of Mourinho’s willingness to sign the player are at odds with suggestions which emerged on Wednesday, claiming the manager wasn’t fully convinced on the player, but owner Roman Abramovich was, per Dan King of the Sun (h/t Jonathan Green of the Daily Star).
It would have been peculiar if Mourinho hadn’t wanted the Barcelona man. As Liam Twomey of Goal.com discussed here, the winger seems to perfectly align with what the Portuguese demands from his players:
The prospect of Pedro scurrying up and down the flanks for the Blues is a tantalising one for Premier League fans. At Barcelona the winger grew into one of world football's most exciting forward players, working tirelessly, driving at defenders regularly and constantly chipping in with vital goals for his team.

From a Chelsea perspective, hopefully he’ll help galvanise a team that has struggled for form in the opening weeks of the season. The Blues certainly need a spark from somewhere, and the presence of such an illustrious player will surely prompt a reaction from the first XI’s current incumbents.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Brassell took a look at what Pedro's arrival will do for Chelsea’s title challenge:
It’s important that Chelsea continue to invest if they are to recapture and eventually surpass last season's levels. According to Paul Brown of the Daily Star, after the signing of the winger is complete, the Blues will turn their attention to Everton centre-back John Stones for a fourth time.

In the piece it’s claimed the champions may have to part with a whopping £40 million to bring the defender to Stamford Bridge, but Mourinho has “won the argument” after insisting more bodies are needed to bolster Chelsea’s creaking back four.
Commentator Ian Darke is unsure whether a move to Chelsea would be best for the player, though:
Mourinho has cut an anxious and angry figure in the early weeks of the season, perhaps due to the club’s inability to land any major new faces. But after making such a decisive impact in this potential move for Pedro, hopefully the manager and everyone else at the club can breath a huge sigh of relief.
Even championship-winning teams need to continue evolving, and acquiring a player like Pedro will keep the attacking players on their toes. Stones would do the same at the back, but you get the impression that he’s a young footballer who’ll be very hard to prise away from Everton as the window edges closer.
