Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Grzegorz Krychowiak, Gedion Zelalem

Gianni VerschuerenAug 19, 2015

Sevilla star Vincente Iborra has expressed his concerns that team-mate, and reported Arsenal target, Grzegorz Krychowiak could leave the Europa League winners before the end of the summer transfer window.

As reported by Metro's Sean Kearns, the Poland international has a €30 million release clause, and Iborra desperately hopes it won't be triggered anytime soon:

"

Of course, I’m concerned that Krychowiak could be taken away. I always want to have the best players on the team. He brings so much, so I hope he stays.

I understand Sevilla’s position, it is clear. I hope nobody pays the clause, and he stays with us.

The 25-year-old holding midfielder established himself as one of La Liga's best in 2014-15, playing an integral role in Sevilla's run to the Europa League title. His position happens to be one of need for the Gunners, who are desperate for another star to pair with Francis Coquelin.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Daily Express' James Cambridge), former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas was adamant that Coquelin's tendency to play on the edge means Arsenal need more depth to win the Premier League title:

"

Arsenal are strong, and I've tipped them to win the Premier League, but I would still like to see them sign another holding midfield player.

Francis Coquelin will be walking a tightrope every week because of the way he plays, and he'll pick up suspensions, so another defensive midfielder would be good.

"

Coquelin emerged as a more than capable option at the position during the 2014-15 season, but his physical style of play means he's always a risk to run into a suspension. The Daily Telegraph's Matt Law believed he should have been sent off during the first half of the Gunners' 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, and it's hard to disagree.

Krychowiak is a more experienced and versatile option who would likely start over Coquelin, and with his release clause apparently sitting at just €30 million, he would present exceptional value at a time when transfer fees appear to be bordering on the ridiculous.

Despite that, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger maintains he has no interest in the midfielder, as shared by James Olley of the London Evening Standard:

Krychowiak should be exactly the kind of player Wenger should be chasing at this stage of the transfer window, which makes his declaration that he won't a little strange. Managers have lied about which players they are or aren't interested in before, but as Nicholas said, it's painfully obvious the Gunners need another midfielder.

Iborra is right to fear anyone triggering the Pole's release clause, as Krychowiak will be a vital player for Sevilla during the upcoming season. But as things stand, it seems he won't have to be afraid of Arsenal being the club to lure the star midfielder to the Premier League.

Gedion Zelalem Closing in on Rangers Loan

Midfield prodigy Gedion Zelalem is reportedly on the verge of completing a loan deal to Rangers, according to the Guardian's David Hytner. The 18-year-old will move to Scotland until January, with the deal containing the option to extend the move until the end of the season.

According to an insider, Rangers aren't the only club interested in the teenager, but Zelalem has his heart set on Glasgow, via the Washington Post's Steven Goff:

Widely regarded as one of the top talents in Arsenal's academy, Zelalem made his debut for the senior side at the age of 16. He has seen limited action with the senior team since then but has started for the under-21 side, alongside Dan Crowley and others.

As a gifted playmaker and creative force, he will remind some of star midfielder Santi Cazorla, but he still has plenty of room to grow and projects as a better finisher and disruptive force inside the box once he reaches his potential.

There's plenty of competition for midfield spots in the senior side, including the aforementioned Cazorla, along with Aaron Ramsey, so a loan move in order to gain valuable experience and play consistent minutes makes sense for the young American.

One year with Rangers―or another club―should prepare him for life with the first-team squad, as it's difficult to see his time away from the club extend beyond a single season, providing he continues his development. Zelalem is a special talent who should be a regular for the Gunners before long.
