WWE SummerSlam 2015: Bold Predictions for Massive Showcase
As one of the biggest pay-per-view shows of the entire year, SummerSlam is an event where bold predictions can often pay off and come true.
The need to have a major impact on the coming months is vital for SummerSlam, as it is the last big show of the summer before a traditionally lean few months in terms of pay-per-view extravaganzas.
This year's edition could provide the opportunity for some major moments and results that will shake the WWE to its very core. The Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker bout alone has the potential for something big, and there's even more on the card that could be potentially huge.
So without further ado, here are some bold predictions for SummerSlam 2015.
Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro Will Be the Night's Longest Match
1 of 4
Let's start off with what could be the most enthralling bout of the lot at SummerSlam: Kevin Owens vs. Cesaro.
Owens' return to pay-per-view action after his series of matches against John Cena could actually occur with him having gold around his waist, as he's set to face Finn Balor the night before SummerSlam at NXT's latest event, NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.
And with both Owens and Cesaro doing a great job of making this feud worthwhile and interesting so far, there's every possibility WWE could invest a lot of TV time in two of its most promising young stars here.
After all, SummerSlam will be a four-hour show, so there's plenty of time for in-ring action, and most of Cesaro's bouts lately have been the longest matches on Raw and SmackDown.
With Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker not likely to be a massively long main event, we may see plenty of Owens and Cesaro at SummerSlam—and plenty of those "Cesaro Section" signs.
Seth Rollins Will Take John Cena's United States Championship
2 of 4As soon as WWE announced that the match between Seth Rollins and John Cena at SummerSlam would be a winner-takes-all contest for the Unties States and WWE world heavyweight titles, two probable endings sprang to mind.
One involves Cena picking up what many believe will be an inevitable win and a 16th world title reign, while the other could see the match ending in some form of controversy where both men leave with their titles.
But what about the third option? What about Rollins actually picking up the win, clean or not, and taking Cena's United States Championship?
If this is going to be the main event feud that carries WWE over the next few months, it's important it goes off with a real bang.
So by causing a shock and having Rollins beat Cena to win the U.S. title, it opens the possibility for all sorts of follow-up plans. For instance, Rollins could hand the title to The Authority and they could pass it on to some fresh blood. Even having Rollins parade around with Cena's title would be great viewing and would further boost his ego.
Roman Reigns Will Turn on Dean Ambrose
3 of 4It's difficult to imagine how much longer Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper will last.
It's been a decent enough rivalry and a solid addition to the midcard, but SummerSlam is the perfect setting for a major twist in this match.
And although many have felt it could be a possibility for a good few months now, this might be the night where Roman Reigns finally turns back heel and causes a major shift in the landscape of WWE.
Turning on Dean Ambrose, who is still one of the more popular babyfaces in the company, would also set up a rivalry with plenty of background to it. Reigns vs. Ambrose is the rivalry that's still been left unexplored since The Shield broke up, and having Reigns back as a heel would certainly make sense.
WWE is making a big deal out of their friendship (or "brotherhood"), and the more it is mentioned, the more you think something dramatic is going to happen.
Of course, the other thing to think about when contemplating something like this is what happens to Wyatt and Harper. You would hope they would be strong enough to move on without a loss to their name, but the main talking point would of course be Reigns' turn.
Someone Will Cost a Star Victory in the Main Event, but Not Sting
4 of 4The main event at SummerSlam is incredibly compelling for one main reason: Nobody is quite sure who is going to win.
Brock Lesnar hasn't been pinned for two years now and has looked unstoppable in that span—at least until Undertaker came on the scene.
A win for Undertaker would put a dent in Lesnar's momentum, a Superstar WWE has much of its stock into since re-signing The Beast to a multiyear contract in March. However, bringing 'Taker back to simply lose to Lesnar again would be a strange call.
So that obviously leans toward a controversial finish at SummerSlam, and while many assume Sting could return at the pay-per-view and set up that dream match with Undertaker, what about an alternative option?
WWE Creative wrote Kane out of storylines after Lesnar shattered his ankle with the ring steps, and if the company wants to bring him back on TV with a bang, avenging that injury by taking down Lesnar just before he is about to beat The Deadman would be a great way to do it.
It could also set up a potential alliance with 'Taker if WWE was keen to keep him around for a few months. Although, even without that, it would be a dramatic ending to what is likely to be a dramatic show.
