Dan Mullen Trolls Florida for Struggles After Firing, Makes Bold Claim About CFP

UNLV head coach and former Florida coach Dan Mullen trolled the Gators for their struggles since he was fired from the position and believed that the team would have made several College Football Playoff appearances during his tenure if an expanded format was adopted earlier.

"And I think maybe if the Playoff era was around, I think three out of my four years, we would have made the College Football Playoff," Mullen said during a Wednesday appearance on The Paul Finebaum Show (h/t On3.com's Nick Schultz). "Maybe that would have looked a little bit different back then with the resume, of keeping me around a little bit longer to try to try to go win that national title. But hey, it is what it is. Probably hasn't gone as well there since I left, it doesn't seem like."

Mullen coached the Gators from 2018-21, compiling double-digit win totals in his first two seasons with the program before he was eventually let go during the 2021 campaign. He left the school with a 34-15 overall record.

Florida has struggled to climb up the SEC standings since Mullen's departure, putting together a 23-27 record since 2021.

While the CFP existed during his time with the Gators, only four teams earned playoff sports before the format expanded to 12 schools ahead of the 2024 season.

Mullen is currently getting ready for his second year at UNLV, helping the Rebels finish with a 10-4 record during their 2025 campaign.
