Saido Berahino Transfer News: Latest Rumours, Speculation on West Brom Star
West Bromwich Albion will attempt to coax Saido Berahino back onto the pitch despite the player's vow never to play for the club's chairman, Jeremy Peace, again.
The Baggies blocked Berahino's move to Tottenham ahead of the transfer deadline, insisting Spurs were trying to land their striker on the cheap.
West Brom boss Tony Pulis believes Berahino must take increased care with the decisions being made early in his career. Pulis is "concerned" over the player's fitness ahead of Saturday's match with Southampton, per Neil Ashton of MailOnline.

Pulis: Berahino Must Mature
Monday, Sept. 7
Pulis provided Ashton with an honest assessment of the situation, saying he doesn't have a problem with Berahino's ambition but doesn't appreciate the way he acted during the transfer window:
"Every sportsman should be allowed the opportunity to better themselves in life, to be ambitious and not to settle for the comfort zone. Saido's problem has been how he he's gone about it, and how he has been manipulated into situations that have put him in such a bad light.
Respect has to be earned and Saido has to learn that lesson. West Brom have nurtured Saido's career for over a decade, the people in the club and on the terraces have supported him, and given him the platform from which he stands today.
They deserve the utmost respect and at times unwillingly he has shown them little. Do I think he's meant it? Of course not, but he has to grow up and wise up to the fact that people at West Brom have supported him right from the beginning of his career.

Berahino to Be Fined for Twitter Outburst, but West Brom Seek Resolution
Wednesday, Sept. 2
"Berahino will face disciplinary action for his attack on Jeremy Peace via Twitter—but the Midlands club are resolved to get last season’s leading scorer back on the pitch as soon as possible," reported Stuart James of the Guardian.
Having seen his potential switch to Spurs blocked, Berahino tweeted, per Sky Sports: "Sad how I can't say exactly how the club has treated me. But I can officially say I will never play Jeremy Peace."
West Brom announced on Aug. 24 that Berahino's written transfer request had been rejected, and the Midlands club stayed firm as the summer transfer deadline came and went without the England U21 star being allowed to depart.
Spurs Blamed for Causing Berahino Rift with WBA

Peace issued a statement regarding Berahino's future after rejecting multiple offers from Tottenham:
"We have a key player who has been very unsettled by antics which were designed to get him out of our club cheaply. Those tactics have continued despite my making our position clear in my first conversation with (Tottenham chairman) Daniel Levy on this subject in mid-August. I said selling Saido so late in the window was not on our agenda.
Tottenham’s offers failed substantially to reflect Saido’s true value while the timing made no allowance for our own recruitment of a suitable replacement for a proven Premier League goalscorer. Saido has been unsettled to the point where our Head Coach has not felt able to select him for our last three games. We are now left with the task of repairing the damage created by this unfortunate episode.
"
It is unsurprising the Baggies held firm over the 22-year-old Englishman, as he was their top scorer in the Premier League last season by some distance, netting 14 times, per WhoScored.com.
Spurs are currently very short on strike options, with Harry Kane their only consistent performer up front, so their interest was understandable. But Berahino's current contract ties him to the Hawthorns club until 2017, and Peace has shown that any future suitors will need to stump up serious cash to lure him away.
