Dynamo Dresden vs. Bayern Munich: Things Learned from Club Friendly

Stefan BienkowskiAug 17, 2015

Bayern Munich may have already started their new season with one Bundesliga match already under their belt, but that didn't stop the Bavarian giants from taking time out of their busy schedule to take part in a fund-raising friendly with Dynamo Dresden.

A total of 30,730 spectators piled in to the Stadion Dresden to watch a Bayern side that admittedly included a number of back-up players yet the 90 minutes that followed undoubtedly offered plenty of food for thought for fans of the current German champions.

The new season is still young, and here's what we took from Bayern's 3-1 over Dresden on Monday night.

Arjen Robben Looked Back to Match Fitness

Although this match was indeed just a friendly against a lower-league opponent, Bayern fans will take confidence from the manner in which Arjen Robben was darting across the pitch over the course of the night.

The Dutchman had started against Hamburg on Friday in the club's first Bundesliga match of the season yet he didn't quite look like his usual self. Douglas Costa, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller all buzzed around him yet Robben simply didn't look match sharp.

If this friendly offered any use to Bayern's squad, it will surely be a solid 45 minutes for the senior forward.

Arturo Vidal Has Well and Truly Settled in

2 of 4

Although Arturo Vidal didn't start Monday night's game, the Chilean international wasted very little time getting directly to the point with a goal in the 48th minute.

Receiving the ball on the left-hand side of the goal, the central midfielder calmly took his time and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper and two onlooking defenders to double Bayern's lead.

Dresden may not be much of a test for this world-class star, but his goal was further evidence that little time was ever going to be needed to adjust back to German football. Vidal has already settled in at Munich and is ready to take on the world.

Joshua Kimmich Is Already Made for Bayern's 1st Team

3 of 4

Bayern have a vast array of players and tactics to choose from. Not only does Pep Guardiola have at least two players for every position, but he also has a large selection of central midfielders to cover any eventually.

Despite all that, Joshua Kimmich must surely be given a chance in Bayern's first team in a more meaningful game than Monday's glamour friendly.

The young starlet, who only recently joined the club, has already shown that he can sit at the base of midfield and dictate play with all the technique and precision of Xabi Alonso whilst adding a youthful physical presence that the Spaniard sorely misses.

Guardiola Faces a Real Headache When It Comes to Left-Back

4 of 4

Most managers would surely scoff at the idea of such a notion being a problem to deal with, but Guardiola undoubtedly has a real struggle on his hands when it comes to Bayern's left-back position.

Not only is David Alaba back and fit, but the Catalonian coach also has Juan Bernat in reserve—arguably one of Bayern's best players last season—leaving him with a real headache with regards as to who to pick from one week to the next.

The young Spaniard picked up Bayern's third goal of the night with a calm finish in the 73rd minute. But will he be considered above Alaba in the more important, competitive games?
