The new Women's World Cup champions obliterated their CONCACAF rivals, leading 4-0 by half-time and continuing their push for more goals after the break to please the fans in Pittsburgh. The USWNT's trashing of Costa Rica on Sunday was the perfect way to start the Victory Tour. Between Meghan Klingenberg celebrating her goal by waving the Terrible Towel, Press' hat-trick and the all-round atmosphere inside Heinz Field, the team couldn't have asked for a better scenario in Pittsburgh.
Heather O'Reilly gladly thanked the fans for the wonderful reception, via the team's official Twitter account:
The Costa Ricans made somewhat of an impression during the 2015 World Cup, holding both Spain and Korea Republic to draws, but they had no answers for the USA's relentless assault. O'Reilly opened the score early, and the first goal immediately showed the visitors were shaking off the rust gathered since that tournament:
That's not to take anything away from the Stars and Stripes, who played an excellent match, but Costa Rica didn't exactly make life difficult on them. Without a doubt, Amelia Valverde's troops will be looking to make a bigger impact on Wednesday.
Press' hat-trick made headlines on Sunday, a welcome sight after an altogether disappointing World Cup for the 26-year-old. The forward has been given a chance following injuries to Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux, and judging from her performance in Pittsburgh, she's ready to grab that chance with both hands.

The Chicago Red Stars forward was one of many backups to play significant minutes, with Ashlyn Harris getting the start ahead of Hope Solo, and fans should prepare for a similar story for the rest of the Victory Tour. Ellis has the 2016 Olympics on her mind, and now is the perfect time to find out exactly what her squad is made of.
Julie Johnston did a fantastic job limiting the damage of Karla Villalobos, for instance, but Ellis knows the 23-year-old can hold her own on the highest level. So does former professional football player Leslie Osborne, who kept her admiration for the centre-back brief:
Wednesday's rematch should be used to give some of the other players an opportunity to prove they can play on the same level. There's no point trying to build on the chemistry the starters already have, with the Olympics still so far away.
The fans want to see the likes of Carli Lloyd, Morgan and Solo grace the pitch, but players of that caliber don't have play every minute―a cameo appearance will do. Abby Wambach played the bulk of the second half, and she too will likely see her minutes drop―she requested it herself, via Fox Sports' Laura Vescey.
Prediction
Costa Rica have a solid team with some real talent, like Villalobos, but there's a reason the side didn't even make it out of the group stages at the World Cup. These first two matches are more about having a good time and giving the fans what they want, and the likes of Brazil and Australia, who are next on the schedule, are the real challenge.
Final score: USA 4-0 Costa Rica
