'Lost' Rory McIlroy Drops Honest Thoughts and Concerns About His Game amid FedEx Cup Playoffs
Rory McIlroy struggled at the FedEx St. Jude Championship over the weekend, and he gave an honest evaluation of his game at the moment.
McIlroy said he felt "lost" as he finished ahead of just two others on Sunday.
"Obviously didn't come in here with a ton of reps. [It] almost felt like the more the week went on, the more I felt lost with my golf swing a little bit," McIlroy told reporters. "The swing wasn't in sync and obviously I didn't do a ton of practice coming in here. I'm so far away from where I need to be to even feel like I have a chance. I've just got to keep working and hope it turns around a little bit."

is only win of the season came at The Masters in April, and he hasn't had a top-five finish since.
Last weekend marked McIlroy's first event in nearly a month, and he said he was "working through some stuff" in his swing in his return to action.
"I think when you're sort of working through some stuff in your swing, then you start to, I certainly do, sometimes lose awareness of the target," he said. "You start to make the golf swing more important than the golf shot sometimes, and that's obviously not a good thing, either."
Despite his struggles in Memphis, McIlroy is still essentially a lock to advance to the Tour Championship and can win his fourth FedEx Cup title. Last weekend gave McIlroy a chance to warm up again after some time off, but he recognizes he'll need to play much better at the BMW Championship this week.
"I guess nice to shake the rust off a little bit, but I'm going to have to work pretty hard between now and next Thursday to feel like I have any sort of golf game to compete next week," he said.
"To me it's more about obviously the execution of what I'm doing right now, and the execution wasn't there this week. I'm going to have to sort of put the head down and grind from now until Thursday to try to feel like I have any sort of chance [at Bellerive]."
McIlroy is currently sitting in 13th place in the FedEx Cup standings with 1,745 points. Scottie Scheffler, who picked up a win over the weekend, is in first with 4,873 points.
