Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway Fight Tops Ratings for UFC White House Event, Sets Streaming Record
Conor McGregor's return to the UFC against Max Holloway drew a record-breaking audience.
According to a press release from Paramount+, the fight reached 15.9 million viewers across the United States and Latin America. UFC 329 had 8.3 million peak concurrent streams, more than UFC Freedom 250 (7.9 million) and UFC 324 (5.93 million).
Unfortunately for those tuning in, the fight between McGregor and Holloway didn't live up to the hype. McGregor attempted a jumping kick with his left leg and landed awkwardly on his right leg, leading to the bout being stopped after just 69 seconds.
Despite the quick injury, McGregor said on social media afterwards that he did not have any injuries coming into the fight.
He then said earlier this week that he would have results from a scan of his leg on Thursday, adding that he thinks Holloway's TKO victory should be changed to a no-contest.
It was McGregor's first fight since 2021 and a rematch of a 2013 fight between the two, which McGregor won by unanimous decision. While it's fair to assume that the injury could lead to the 38-year-old McGregor retiring, he said that isn't going to be the case.
"Surgery. Prehab. Return to martial arts practice. Go again. Final fight of the contract," McGregor wrote on Instagram.
Once a top fighter in the sport of martial arts, McGregor has become more known for his lengthy injury history. His last fight in 2021 ended with a fractured left ankle against Dustin Poirier, and he was then forced to withdraw from a fight against Michael Chandler in 2024 because of a broken toe.
McGregor managed to generate plenty of hype ahead of his return, but whether he'll be able to do the same next time around remains to be seen.
