Paddy Pimblett, Daniel Cormier, More React to Conor McGregor's Injury vs. Holloway at UFC 329
Big names around UFC reacted to Conor McGregor's UFC 329 bout with Max Holloway ending in the first round after McGregor suffered a right knee injury.
McGregor appeared to injure his right knee after attempting a jump kick early in the first round Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Paddy Pimblett, who claimed a first-round submission victory over Benoรฎt Saint Denis in UFC 329's co-main event, expressed hope of becoming the face of the UFC shortly after McGregor's fight was waved off at one minute and nine seconds.
"Oh my God. McGregor's done already," Pimblett said. "Well, he's finished. The new boy is in town. The main man's here. Know what I mean? I can become the face of the organization now."
Holloway himself said he had urged the referee to call the fight off when it became clear McGregor couldn't continue on his apparently injured leg.
"I'm just praying for the guy, all jokes aside, as a human being," Holloway said.
Former two-division UFC championship and current UFC commentator Daniel Cormier said he felt McGregor attempted the kick so early in the fight because of the adrenaline rush of returning to the Octagon after five years.
"You see these guys that have been gone for a long time do things that doesn't make sense, and I think that's that with Conor," Cormier said.
UFC fighter Brian Ortega also weighed in on Ortega's fight on social media.
McGregor's last UFC bout took place in July 2021, when he suffered a leg injury in a TKO loss to Dustin Poirier.
Holloway, who suffered a unanimous decision defeat to McGregor in 2013, called for a trilogy bout after the early end to Saturday's fight.
