Messi got his World Cup started off right by scoring a hat trick against Algeria. It was the first hat trick for the Argentinian legend as he achieved one of the few feats missing from his resume.
He kept his foot on the gas in Argentina's win over Austria on Monday, scoring a pair of goals. With his performance, he became the all-time leader in goals scored in the World Cup on both the men's and women's. His first goal surpassed Germany's Miroslav Klose, while the second one pushed him clear of Brazil's Marta.
While Messi stands alone at the top of the goals list, Mbappé is coming for the crown. The French star is currently tied for second all-time on the men's side with 16 after notching a pair in the win over Iraq. Still just 27 years old, there's a good chance Mbappé sits atop the list by the time his career is over.
Mbappé is coming off a 2022 World Cup in which he won the Golden Boot with eight goals, and he should surpass that number this year if he keeps scoring at his current rate.
Haaland is making his World Cup debut this year, and he has started off strong. He put two in the back of the net last week before adding two more goals on Monday against Senegal.
Undav and David are still in the race for the Golden Boot, but it will take a lot for those two to catch up to Messi, Mbappé and Haaland.
