North Carolina's Bats Would Not Be Denied

You want runs? North Carolina and West Virginia had runs.

The Tar Heels out-slugged the Mountaineers and ended their season on Wednesday, winning 12-7 in a wild game.

Gavin Gallaher led North Carolina's offensive onslaught, finishing with four hits, four RBI and two runs. Owen Hull and Cooper Nicholson added two RBI apiece, and North Carolina put up double digits despite not hitting a single home run.

West Virgina's Gavin Kelly led the Mountaineers with three hits, a homer, two RBI and two runs.

The Tar Heels took a 12- 1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, though to West Virginia's credit, the team didn't back down. The Mountaineers put up five runs that inning and another in the bottom of the eighth, though it was too little, too late.

North Carolina has now qualified for the College World Series final, where it awaits Oklahoma. Had West Virginia won, the two teams would have met again on Friday to decide the CWS finalist from Bracket 1, but it was ultimately a moot point.

Oklahoma's Offense Too Much for Georgia

Like North Carolina, Oklahoma clinched its spot in the College World Series final with relative ease thanks to an impressive performance Wednesday.

The Sooners defeated Georgia 11-4, marking their second victory over the Bulldogs in the last three days. They also defeated Georgia on Monday in a much tighter one-run win and will take an undefeated record in Omaha into the upcoming series against the Tar Heels.

While Oklahoma pitchers were charged with just two earned runs, the story was the Sooners' bats.

Jason Walk started things with a solo homer in the third before Trey Gambill (solo) and Dasan Harris (two runs) each launched long balls in the fourth. Even when Georgia cut the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth with back-to-back bases-loaded walks from Kolby Branch and Ryan Black, the Sooners responded.

Another two-run homer from Harris blew the game open in the eighth, and Walk added another solo homer of his own in the same inning just for good measure.

Throw in an RBI double in the seventh from Jaxon Willits and a two-run double from Gambill in the ninth, and there was no doubt.

That was more than enough run support, as Oklahoma starter Nick Wesloski allowed three runs (one earned) in 5.2 innings of work before LJ Mercurius closed the door by allowing just a single run in 3.1 innings of relief.
