France 3, Senegal 1
France came into the World Cup as a co-favorite alongside Spain, but its first match wasn't exactly a cakewalk.
Senegal stayed in the match until the final minutes, showing promise of a potentially strong showing at the World Cup.
France was held scoreless through the first half, but star forward Kylian Mbappé got his country on the board in the 66th minute off an assist from Michael Olise.
The goal for Mbappé was his 13th career World Cup goal, and it tied him for the most goals in France's history.
Senegal continued to threaten for a bit, but Bradley Barcola gave France its second goal to just about put it away in the 82nd minute.
Senegal put a bit of pressure back on France with a goal in added time, but another goal from Mbappé gave France some more insurance in the final moments. Mbappé's second goal made him France's all-time goal scorer.
France will be back in action on Monday against Iraq, while Senegal will face Norway next.
