Dolphins offensive tackle Austin Jackson and Giants right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor also had to be pulled off the field after the fight, according to ESPN's Jordan Raanan and Marcel Louis-Jacques.
Jackson threw a punch at Giants rookie linebacker Arvell Reese. He was also pushed to the ground by linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux after punching Reese.
After getting involved in the skirmish, Winston also had to be removed for a handful of plays.
The fights occurred despite a warning from Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley, who said players who threw a punch would be kicked out and that he would be "very, very disappointed" to have to remove a player from practice.
"In this sort of an environment, you have these rules of engagement that aren't really rules of the game, and then somebody else goes over the line or they do go over the line and somebody needs to protect somebody and that's where it goes. And I think as long as it doesn't get out of control, where it gets a violent-type situation, it's fine, you know?" Giants coach John Harbaugh said. "And we decided that anybody that threw a punch in those scrimmages would be treated like the game. That's why Jermaine didn't practice toward the end. He didn't really throw a hard punch, but it was to the facemask. And that'll get you in the game. That's a 15-yarder at least."
That kind of physicality isn't all that surprising at this point during training camp. Players are eager to get back on the field against real competition rather than their own teammates, so they're coming into these joint practices fired up.
The Giants and Dolphins will play a preseason game on Saturday, where Harbaugh and Hafley will look to get better behavior from their players.
