Henrik Sedin's Son Valter Agrees to Contract with MLS' Whitecaps NEXT Pro Team

The son of Vancouver Canucks legend Henrik Sedin is returning to the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The club announced Thursday that Valter Sedin signed a contract with Whitecaps 2, which competes in the MLS NEXT Pro developmental league.

"I'm excited to be back at the club and to sign a professional contract," he said. "I'm looking forward to continuing to develop my game, and to continue pushing forward in my career."

Sedin joined the Whitecaps youth academy in 2020 but left in 2025 to sign with the under-19 side for Swedish club Hammarby.

Most recently, the 19-year-old represented Canada in the Concacaf U-20 Championship. He scored a goal in the 56th minute of the 2-2 draw with Jamaica to close out the group stage.

Canada advanced to the semifinals and in doing so earned a spot in the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

While Sedin is signed to Whitecaps 2, he's eligible to be called up to Vancouver's senior squad on a short-term basis if the need arises. In the meantime, he'll get to continue refining his game.
