Historic UFC White House Prize Money Bonuses Revealed for Gaethje, Hokit, Ruffy, Nickal and Lopes
After the UFC increased its bonus money for Sunday's Freedom 250 event at the White House, multiple fighters went home with their wallets bursting at the seams.
Per Alexander K. Lee of MMA Fighting, the promotion increased the Fight of the Night bonus from its usual $100,000 to $400,000, and the Performance of the Night bonus from $100,000 to $425,000. In the main event, Justin Gaethje defeated Ilia Topuria to win the undisputed lightweight championship and earned both Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night, meaning that he took home a whopping $825,000 in bonus money.
Topuria, who suffered his first career loss when his corner called off the fight after the fourth round, earned an extra $400,000 for being part of the Fight of the Night.
The other $425,000 Performance of the Night bonus went to Ciryl Gane, who defeated Alex Pereira by second-round knockout in the co-main event to win the interim heavyweight championship. Pereira, who is a former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight champion, was attempting to become the first fighter in the company's history to win a title in three different divisions.
In addition to the fireworks from the two headlining fights, the five other fights also ended in knockouts, so $25,000 knockout bonuses were given to Sean O'Malley, Josh Hokit, Mauricio Ruffy, Bo Nickal and Diego Lopes.
The UFC is certainly riding high after its exciting showcase at the White House, and the promotion will look to keep the momentum going when Conor McGregor makes his highly anticipated return against Max Holloway in the main event of UFC 329 on July 11.
