2026 NBA Draft Scouting Report for Tarris Reed

Jonathan WassermanJun 21, 2026

Tarris Reed's breakout was a key reason for Connecticut's return to the NCAA title game.

He averaged 19.5 points and 13.2 boards during March Madness, which included a huge 26-point game against Duke's Cameron Boozer and Patrick Ngongba II.

Though Reed is more of an older-school, back-to-the-basket big, he's proven to be highly effective in his office while possessing a few other skills/traits that can help separate him from outdated bigs.

Essential Facts, Stats, Combine Measurements

College: UConn | Position: C | Age: 22 | Height: 6'9.75" | Weight: 263 lbs | Wingspan: 7'4.25" | PPG: 14.7 | RPG: 9.0 | APG: 2.3 | BPG: 2.0 | SPG: 0.9 | FG%: 6.07 | 3PT%: 0.0 | FT%: 61.7

Realistic Pro Comparison: Day'Ron Sharpe

Brooklyn Nets v Detroit Pistons

Tarris Reed's pre-draft scouting report isn't that different from Day'Ron Sharpe's.

They're strong, low-post scorers who can pass and disrupt defensively. But neither is the type of creator, shooter or big who will command featured touches in the NBA.

Reed figures to carve out a role providing interior scoring and rim protection while offering some value as a ball-mover who can process defense and make reads.

Strengths

2 of 3
Illinois v UConn

Strength 1: Post scoring

The majority of Reed's scoring came from the low post, where he uses his 264- pound frame, 7'4" wingspan and touch. He does a good job of gaining position, pushing defenders back and creating high-percentage hooks.

Strength 2: Passing

Reed's 17.8 assist percentage is on the higher end among centers. He has good vision playing back to the basket or operating around the key.

Strength 3: Shot-blocking

A career 8.7 block percentage highlights Reed's length and timing in rim protection. His strength and length are effective enough for him to add value defensively in the paint.

Weaknesses

3 of 3
Illinois v UConn

Weakness 1: Face-up offense

Most of Reed's scoring comes around the rim through rolls, cuts, and offensive rebounds. He has limited shot-creation ability and does not currently offer much floor-spacing value.

Weakness 2: Shooting/free throws

His free-throw shooting has been inconsistent throughout his college career. Improving from the line would increase his offensive efficiency and make him a more reliable option late in games.

Weakness 3: Defensive versatility

Tarris Reed is most comfortable defending around the basket and can struggle when switched onto quicker players in space. His lateral quickness limits some defensive versatility at higher levels.
