FT - Egypt 3, New Zealand 1

A team in Group G has finally picked up three points! Egypt, with their comeback victory against New Zealand, find themselves atop the group. Even more notable, Egypt earned their first-ever win at a World Cup on Sunday night.
Thanks to a more aggressive second half showing that featured Hossam Hassan's team pushing numbers further forward into the attack, Egypt snagged two goals to claim a 2-1 win.
The first came via Mostafa Ziko, who found himself free in the box to head the ball home in the 59th minute. The second came from none other than Mohamed Salah, who scored a classic goal cutting in on his left foot. It was that strike from the Egyptian legend that served as the eventual game-winner, though it wasn't the final goal of the evening. Trezeguet made it 3-1 thanks to a corner kick assist from Salah.
Salah, in general, was more involved in the second period than he was in the first and benefited from Egypt's more fluid approach. But New Zealand made life easy for their opponents with poor marking in the box and when they allowed themselves to be overly stretched in transition.
Still, Egypt showed a side of themselves against New Zealand that we've rarely seen — at World Cups or elsewhere. They showed an ability to create chances, even when facing a lower block. That could prove crucial as they cast an eye to a group stage finale against Iran on Friday as they seek to lock down the top spot in Group G.
