Wyndham Clark Holds Off Sam Burns to Win 2026 U.S. Open for 2nd Career Major Title
Wyndham Clark was not a popular figure this weekend at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York, his past perhaps preceding him. But a hostile reception didn't stop him from winning the U.S. Open for a second time.
Amidst jeers and scattered support, Clark shot a three-over 73 to finish four under for the tournament, narrowly holding off Sam Burns by a single stroke.

It appeared that he'd all but wrapped things up on No. 16, shooting a birdie that gave him a two-stroke advantage.
But he promptly bogeyed No. 17, reducing his lead back to one and setting up a dramatic final hole.
Clark raced out to a two-stroke lead after an opening round 64 and pushed that lead to four strokes after shooting a 69 in Round 2. Despite shooting even par in Round 3, he saw his lead grow to six strokes.
Sunday simply wasn't his day, though he build a big enough lead to hold off Burns' strong finish (67).
That came much to the dismay of his haters, who were a much bigger storyline than the sport of golf would have preferred:
But Clark remained composed and has now won two of the past four U.S. Opens.
