Mike Conley Jr. Reportedly Lands Celtics Contract amid Jaylen Brown Trade Rumors in NBA FA
Mike Conley is reportedly heading to Boston for his 20th NBA season.
Conley and the Boston Celtics have agreed to a one-year contract ahead of the point guard's age-39 campaign, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
The news comes amid rumors the Celtics are considering trading Jaylen Brown.
Conley is departing from the Minnesota Timberwolves in free agency after a tumultuous third full season with the team.
Originally slated to retain his spot in the Wolves' starting lineup, Conley was benched shortly before the 2025-26 season opener as Chris Finch decided to start Donte DiVincenzo at point guard instead.
Conley saw his playing time fluctuate throughout the season as he occasionally fell out of the rotation altogether.
He was traded at the February deadline as the Wolves looked to trim their luxury tax bill, then dealt again and waived before re-signing in Minnesota for the veteran minimum.
Conley finished out his third full season in Minnesota having appeared in 54 games with 15 starts. He averaged career lows in points per game (4.5), minutes per game (18.4) and field-goal shooting percentage (33.5) during that span.
Conley improved his efficiency when called on to help fill in for the Achilles injury suffered by DiVincenzo in the first round.
He shot 50 percent from the field while averaging 4.4 points through 12 playoff games and five starts before the Wolves were eliminated from the second round by the San Antonio Spurs.
Conley, who will turn 39 in October, said during his exit interviews in May he didn't plan to retire after his 19th NBA season.
He will now hope a more consistent role in the Celtics' backcourt can help him get closer to his career 43.6 percent shooting rate from the field.
