
Updated Hockey World Championship 2026 Results, Group Standings Ahead of KO Bracket After May 19
The 2026 IIHF Men's World Championship is one step closer to the knockout round.
Austria continued a dominant start to the tournament while Hungary leapfrogged the United States in the standings as the tournament's preliminary round continued Tuesday in Switzerland.
Here's a look at Tuesday's scores and highlights as well as the group standings heading into Wednesday.

Teams get three points for a regulation win, two points for an overtime win and one point for an overtime loss. The top four teams in each group advance to the quarterfinals.

Tuesday Highlights
Austria 3, Latvia 1
Benjamin Nissner's third-period power play goal made the difference in Austria's win over Latvia.
The Austrians have now won three straight games and will continue contending with Switzerland and Finland for the top of Group A.
Norway 4, Italy 0
Norway goaltender Henrik Haukeland recorded a 30-save shutout against Italy to help his team claim their first win of the tournament.
Italy has yet to record a win through three games and now sits at the bottom of the tournament standings with a minus-13 goal differential.
Hungary 5, Great Britain 0
Hungary grabbed an early lead after Krisztian Nagy capitalized on Great Britain's defensive-zone turnover in the first two and a half minutes of Tuesday's matchup.
Hungarian goaltender Bence Bálizs recorded a 26 saves in a shutout that allowed Hungary to leapfrog the United States for the fourth seed in Group A.
Slovakia 5, Slovenia 4
Slovakia was 30 seconds away from a regulation win when Rok Ticar scored his second goal of the game to tie the contest at 4-4.
Neither team was able to get the game-winning goal in overtime, so things went into a shootout, where Slovakia was able to outscore Slovenia.
The preliminary round of the men's world championships continues Wednesday. Switzerland will start out the day against Austria in a battle of two undefeated teams before the United States looks to bounce back in an afternoon matchup against Germany.
