Chemnitzer FC vs. Borussia Dortmund: Team News, Preview, Live Stream, TV Info

Stefan BienkowskiAug 8, 2015

Borussia Dortmund will return from Euro success to the grind of domestic football on Sunday when they travel to Chemnitz, Saxony for the first round of the DFB Pokal.

Thomas Tuchel will enter the Stadion an der Gellerstrasse in his third competitive match as Dortmund manager despite not yet kicking a ball in the coming Bundesliga campaign. Alas, the German cup is a huge part of this club's history and the new manager will be well aware of what's at stake should his side stumble this early.

Chemnitzer, who play in the 3.Bundesliga, are already two weeks in to their league campaign and as such may have the physical edge over Marco Reus and Co. on Sunday yet manager Karsten Heine is well aware of the task at hand for his minnows.

The lower league side have drawn both their games so far this season conceding just one goal but also scoring only one in return. Chemnitzer may be a stubborn foe but this is still very much a game that Dortmund are expected to walk through.

Team Lineups

Tuchel will undoubtedly be tempted to drop a few big names and rest any potential injuries ahead of the Bundesliga's return next weekend, yet the new coach will have to find the perfect balance between new legs and needed experience in such a tricky away tie.

Tuchel confirmed on Saturday that Kevin Kampl twisted his knee and may not make the trip on Sunday, while Adrian Ramos isn't yet ready to make a start for the side. Erik Durm and Neven Subotic were also still training on their own, per ESPN FC's Stefan Buzcko.

As such we'll likely see Dortmund start off with Roman Weidenfeller given a shot in goal, while Mats Hummels and Sokratis Papastathopoulos take up the role of central defenders alongside Lukasz Piszczek and Marcel Schmelzer.

Sven Bender will probably come in for Ilkay Gundogan in the middle of the park to play alongside Julian Weigl, while Jonas Hofmann and Gonzalo Castro play off Shinji Kagawa as the attacking three in midfield. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will most likely start up front.

For Chemnitzer we should see a standard 4-2-3-1 formation with Kevin Kunz in goals and a back line of Alexander Nandzik, Kevin Conrad, Marc Endres and Fabian Stenzel.

The midfield duo will probably be Jamil Dem and Tim Danneberg, while Christian Cappek, Anton Fink and Reagy Ofosu play off Frank Loning in attack.

Key players

Shinji Kagawa

Assuming the Japanese international starts for Dortmund, we can expect the attacking midfielder to continue his recent form on Sunday with a competent, playmaking performance that'll show Kagawa as Tuchel's primary creator of chances.

Others may bag more goals than the slight midfielder but very few have looked even half as creative as the former Manchester United star this summer. If he's at the top of his game then nobody in this Chemnitzer side will be able to get anywhere near him.

Anton Fink

Not only is Fink the club captain for Heine's side, but he's also one of the primary getter of goals for the 3.Bundesliga team.

The 28-year-old enjoys playing off Loning as the second striker and, as Transfermarkt suggests, he has a true eye for goal, having picked up no less than 19 goals and five assists last season. If anyone can hurt Dortmund on Sunday it's this forward.
