Former NFL Player Anthony Wint to Contend for UFC Contract in Fight vs. Matt Adams
Former New York Jets linebacker Anthony Wint will attempt to earn a UFC contract in an upcoming fight with Matt Adams on Dana White's Contender Series, according to ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity," Wint told Okamoto. "I feel like I'm arriving at a point in my career where preparation and timing are finally meeting. I'm still just scratching the surface. I've spent years developing not only as a fighter, but as a man mentally, spiritually and professionally.
"I respect everybody in this sport, but I truly believe I'm built for the highest level. The goal isn't just to win fights. It's to leave a mark and become someone people remember long after I'm done competing. Some people would say it's better to go straight to the UFC, but I love the opportunity to perform in front of UFC CEO Dana White and earn it. My plan is to walk in there and become an overnight star."
Wint spent all four seasons of his college career at Florida International from 2014-17 before eventually joining New York as an undrafted free agent.
He appeared in two games with the Jets during their 2018 campaign, recording one tackle and one forced fumble while operating on special teams.
In 2021, Wint made his amateur MMA debut. He recently captured a heavyweight title in the main event of Fury FC 117.
Wint will now face Adams, who owns a 6-2 record and is coming off a win over Quentin Campbell.
The upcoming fight will take place at Meta Apex in Las Vegas on Aug. 11.
