Phil Mickelson Withdraws from 2026 PGA Championship for Personal Matter After Missing Masters
Having already missed the Masters, Phil Mickelson will be absent for the second major tournament of the 2026 season as well.
The PGA Championship announced Tuesday that Mickelson withdrew due to a personal health matter within his family. His exit opened a spot for Max Homa.
"I wish I could. I can't unfortunately," he told Flushing It Golf. "I'm hoping to play the rest of the year after that but I honestly don't know."

Sports Illustrated's Bob Harig reported Monday night that Mickelson removed himself from the field for LIV Golf's upcoming event at Trump National Golf Club in Washington, D.C.
The undisclosed health situation has limited the 55-year-old to just one event in 2026. He tied for 48th at LIV Golf South Africa in March.
The PGA Championship is where Mickelson made history as the oldest ever major winner (50). He beat Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen by two shots at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
Outside of tying for second in the 2023 Masters, the Hall of Famer's performances at major tournaments since then are what you'd expect of a legend into his 50s. He has 10 missed cuts in his last 16 entries.
Missing the 2026 PGA Championship is another blow as Mickelson tries to make the most of the twilight years in his playing career.
The tournament tees off May 14 at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.
