NBA Playoff Picture 2026, Updated Bracket, Standings and Seed Predictions
The NBA standings show both separation between the hoops world's haves and have-nots and pockets of congestion throughout them.
In other words, no one is breathing particularly easy at the moment. Except maybe the Detroit Pistons, who have maintained a four-game cushion for the East's No. 1 seed despite being without MVP candidate Cade Cunningham for the past two weeks due to his collapsed lung.
So, even with the campaign careening toward the finish line, there's still so much jostling to be done. The playoff picture before you, then, probably isn't a carbon copy of the one you'll see when the curtains actually drop.
How will it change, though? It's a great question, and while only time knows the actual answer, we're breaking out the crystal ball to build our predicted bracket for both conferences.

While it's possible the Cavaliers could climb to No. 3—they have the NBA's second-softest remaining schedule—the Knicks still get our nod. For now. Maybe check back with us after they visit Houston on Tuesday night, but if they can handle that up-and-down team, they could go on a mini-run before the competition stiffens in the final week.
The real races to watch here are the three-team clusters fighting for seeds 5-7 and 8-10.
On the former, it's hard not to feel hopeful about the Sixers, with the always necessary if-they're-healthy caveat attached. They'd been banged up for a few months, but they finally had all there of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George together over the weekend, and if that trio is on the floor, it's just a star collection unrivaled in that tier.
The Hawks-Raptors feels like a coin flip, but Atlanta has played the better ball of late. The Hawks have been a buzzsaw since the All-Star break, while the Raptors remain vulnerable to bricklaying frigid nights from their shooters.
Finally, the Hornets feel like a relatively easy choice to leapfrog both the Magic and Heat, as the latter two are both truding toward the finish line. This is basically a matter of who will be less bad between Orlando and Miami, so we'll take the simple route and pick the Magic, since they've already clinched that head-to-head tiebreaker.
Predicted Western Conference Seeds

Were you hoping for more (i.e., any) chaos here? Well, sorry folks, but since predictions should always prioritize accuracy over boldness, we're going with our gut and saying the current West standings hold.
The Spurs might be doing everything in their power to rise to No. 1, but that only matters if the Thunder do their part and leave the door ajar. Instead, they've basically barricaded it shut with 17 wins in 19 games since the All-Star break.
It's the same fate for the Nuggets, who can't find a way foward despite winning six straight. That's because the Lakers are riding their own 14-2 heater over the last month, finally pairing their explosive offense with a top-10 defense (since Feb. 28).
The Rockets might be neck-and-neck with the Timberwolves, but maybe Anthony Edwards' seemingly imminent return settles that score. Especially with the vibes in Space City feeling less than immaculate.
The Suns seem to be getting healthier at the right time, so between that, the current cushion they hold and the fact a tiebreaker would favor them right now, they get the nod over the suddenly streaking Clippers (winners of five straight). And finally, the Blazers just look better than a Warriors team missing Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody for the rest of this season and running short on time to get Stephen Curry back from a nagging knee ailment.
