USA's 14-Year Undefeated Run Snapped by Tua's Brother, American Samoa at Flag Football Championships

Team USA's run of dominance in flag football came to a surprise end on Friday with a loss to American Samoa.

The United States lost 38-32 to the American Samoa squad in the World Championships, snapping a 14-year winning streak that dates back to the 2012 World Championships.

Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, led the way for American Samoa with five passing touchdowns in the win.

The last time Team USA lost in flag football was against Austria in the 2012 World Championship final.

America's 14-year winning streak included five consecutive World Championships, gold at the 2022 World Games and consecutive gold medals at the Americas Continental Championship in 2023 and 2025.

Friday's loss brings some intrigue to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles with flag football being added to the Games.

The U.S. will likely still be heavily favored to win gold, but the door is at least cracked open for someone to step in if the Americans slip up.
