Giants' Oracle Park Named 2028 MLB All-Star Game Host Amid LA Olympics Buzz

Major League Baseball announced Friday that the 2028 MLB All-Star Game will be played at the San Francisco Giants' Oracle Park.

The announcement comes amid MLB's attempt to have its players participate in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Earlier this year, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told reporters, "There are some issues with the MLBPA that we just need to resolve. I sense a lot of momentum towards playing in L.A. in 2028. I think we're going to get over those issues."

As noted by Bob Nightengale of USA Today, holding the 2028 All-Star Game in San Francisco ensures a "short flight" for players to L.A. for the Olympics should they be permitted to play.

MLB's current collective bargaining agreement expires in December, and while a potential salary cap is the most pressing issue to address, Olympic participation figures to be part of the discussion as well.

Whether MLB players competing in the Olympics for the first time ever comes to fruition or not, the All-Star Game will be in a familiar locale in 2028.

San Francisco played host to the All-Star Game three times previously with the most recent occasion being in 2007.

That was also the first time the MLB All-Star Game was held at what is now called Oracle Park, as the 1961 and 1984 All-Star Games in San Francisco took place at Candlestick Park.

When the 2028 MLB All-Star Game occurs, San Francisco will be tied with Boston and Detroit as the city that has hosted the All-Star Game the ninth-most times.

Barring a potential lockout that causes games to be canceled, the 2027 MLB All-Star Game is slated for Wrigley Field in Chicago next year.

That will represent the seventh All-Star Game to be played in Chicago and the fourth at Wrigley Field.
