The ISU World Figure Skating Championships will, of course, feature many of the world's best skaters vying for one of the top prizes in the sport. However, a few storylines are worth tracking in addition to the high level of competition.
One involves U.S. skating phenom Ilia Malinin, who is seeking a third straight world championship. The 21-year-old remains the only skater who has successfully landed a quadruple Axel in competition.
Malinin was a heavy favorite to take men's gold in Italy. While he did help the U.S. take gold in the team event, he fell during his final singles routine and finished off the podium.
The "Quad God" is looking to treat his Olympic stumble as a minor roadblock.
"Of course, with everything that happened in the Olympics, it's something that is part of the sport. It's part of what we do, and we just have to, you know, get back up and keep going," Malinin said, per Tyler Erzberger of Newsweek.
The French ice-dancing duo of Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron, meanwhile, will look to cap an incredible year of skating. The pair teamed up roughly one year ago and has since claimed a European championship and Olympic Gold.
The American duo of Evan Bates and Madison Chock, which took silver in Italy, won't compete in Prague. However, the talented pair of Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik will represent the United States.
The 2026 World Championships will also mark the final run for famed Japanese skater Kaori Sakamoto. The three-time world champion, who took Bronze in Italy, is expected to transition to coaching after this season.
"Coach Sakamoto will debut in the spring," she said, per Shintaro Kano of Olympics.com. "...I'm starting from the very, very bottom rung. I'll just do whatever they tell me to do. In the beginning, I'm hoping to learn the basics and do some shows while I'm at it."
Sakamoto took silver at last year's World Championships and will look to wrap her career with another podium finish.
