WWE 2K26 Expert Review Roundup and Analysis

Erik BeastonMar 8, 2026

The early reviews for WWE 2K26 are in and thus far, the release has been met with as much applause as cover athlete CM Punk in his hometown of Chicago.

Early reviewers rave about the upgraded gameplay, the best-ever graphics and likenesses, improvements to key modes, and storytelling that goes places even the WWE Creative team would not go.

Not everything is perfect, but that did not stop some from referring to the latest from WWE and 2K Sports as the best of all time.

Dive deeper into those reviews with this collection of them.

"Close to Perfection"

1 of 3

Adam Collier of the Daily Star applauded this year's release, calling it "as close to perfection as a wrestling game has ever been" while citing a "few little bugs" as the only thing holding it back from greatest of all time status.

"Having now ditched last gen consoles, the team at 2K have unleashed a true gaming beast that shows just where wrestling games can go in the next few years," he wrote.

He touted the improved graphics and a "fine-tuned" gameplay, the expansive rosters and impressive MyFACTION mode, while admitting there is little meat on the bone with this year's MyRISE production.

As has consistently been the case for years now, he commended the game for having "something for everyone" en route to awarding it a 95/100 score, the only difference being the few bugs in the gameplay mechanics.

It is, arguably, the most positive review for this year's release yet and firmly places WWE 2K26 in the pantheon of pro wrestling video game excellence.

"Arguably the Best Pro Wrestling Game in History"

Richard Breslin of Gaming Bible admits there is nostalgia for WWF No Mercy and Raw vs. SmackDown, but that this year's release may stand above them all as the best wrestling game ever.

The review highly touts the improved graphics and motion capturing, with CM Punk, Blake Monroe, and Naomi's entrances recognized for being as close to the real things as possible.

Moving on to the Showcase mode, Breslin applauds a change that makes it easier to unlock all of the rewards without having to grind through each of the matches.

"What's more, if you don't want to play all the traditional chapters in the Showcase, you can alternatively run a 20-person Gauntless match, where you'll face 20 wrestlers in a single run, as you fight to survive all the way to the end. By completing this Gauntlet, you'll still unlock all the same content from the chapters; you'll just get there a lot quicker."

The vastly improved Island mode, expanded creation suite, and new Ringside Pass offerings also earned high marks.

An accessibility issue surrounding the mashing of buttons notwithstanding, Breslin wrapped up his review on a high note, "I tip my hat to the developers for how they are continually able to improve every year. Sure, it's not a perfect game, but objectively, I believe that WWE 2K26 is the best wrestling game ever made, and that's the bottom line, because I said so!"

The writer awarded the game a 9/10 rating, in line with Collier's.

"WWE 2K26 Leans into the Weird and Wonderful"

3 of 3

Leah J. Williams kicked off her review for Screen Hub by writing, "If you love your professional wrestling with a side of supernatural shenanigans, and some wild and uncanny storytelling, then this is the game for you."

She continued, focusing on the MyRISE, Showcase, and The Island modes. "They're the most compelling in my books, and the ones that get you as close as possible to the fictional world of WWE."

She admitted that the story in MyRISE was not as gripping as year's past and as a result, she was "lukewarm" on it, but did note that CM Punk and Paul Heyman's voice work in the mode helped elevate it.

The Island is a big improvement from last year's release, leading Williams to write:

"Tackling the Order of Shadows plot, I was particularly enamoured by my goth wrestler cohort – Rhea Ripley, Drew McIntyre, Aleister Black and others – and how weird The Island is willing to get. When you start with a wrestling companion named Dolores who reads tarot cards and summons spirits, it can only get weirder from there."

Assigning the game a four-out-of-five-stars review, Williams listed the storytelling, even in its glorious weirdness at times, as one of the strengths of this year's game and closed her review by noting, "while this game isn't as much of an upgrade as its predecessor was, it still offers plenty for players looking to live out their wrestling dreams."
