Paul Heyman Calls Out Tom Brady, WWE Rumors on Brock Lesnar, LA Knight, Bron Breakker, Seth Rollins
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.
Heyman Wades into Brady-Paul Feud
NFL legend Tom Brady and WWE star Logan Paul have been locked in a war of words in recent weeks to hype up the Fanatics Football Classic on March 21 in Saudi Arabia.
Paul Heyman decided to get involved, posting Sunday on social media that Brady "has no idea what @LoganPaul and I would do to him on the mic" if the retired quarterback ever showed up on Raw:
Heyman also referenced Netflix's The Roast of Tom Brady, where comedian Nikki Glaser delivered some particularly cutting barbs at his expense:
Brady is paid handsomely by Fox Sports to be its lead NFL color commentator in the booth, and he generally received positive reviews for his second year of work.
But the 48-year-old would probably be in over his head were he ever in a promo battle with Heyman.
Lesnar vs. Knight Listed on Tentative WrestleMania 42 Plan
A somewhat surprising opponent for Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 was penciled in as recently as late January.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer (via Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported that LA Knight was listed alongside Lesnar on one prospective card. Meltzer added on an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that Knight and Lesnar "was the plan."
Beyond confirming one of the headliners, the Royal Rumble match is often a way to further secondary stories or tease new matchups with WrestleMania in mind. A lot of fans assumed that's what was happening when Oba Femi notched five eliminations in the men's match before Lesnar dumped him out over the top.
From a storytelling perspective, it doesn't get much easier than pitting two powerhouses against one another. A match with Lesnar would also establish Femi as a star on the main roster.
The motivations behind a Lesnar/Knight pairing are a more difficult to see.
The obvious parallel is the WrestleMania 32 encounter between The Beast Incarnate and Dean Ambrose. Lesnar came out on top in a match that was quickly forgotten, and neither wrestler came out looking better with the result.
As fans are reminded plenty of times, plans can change. In the coming days and weeks, Lesnar's WrestleMania path will become more clear.
Breakker's WrestleMania Status Unclear
Meltzer first reported on Feb. 8 that Bron Breakker underwent surgery to address a "serious hernia." The longtime insider followed up to write that Breakker was slated to match up with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania (via Carrier). This was viewed internally as the "third-biggest match of the weekend."
Rollins has been sidelined since October because of a shoulder injury.
Given the lengthy timeline for his recovery, many assumed WrestleMania would be his first big match back. Breakker is his most obvious opponent as well when he played a role in injuring the former world champion.
It would be a big deal if WWE had to shelve those plans temporarily.
Pitting Rollins against Bronson Reed wouldn't feel the same, and neither Paul nor Austin Theory were in The Vision when he got betrayed.
Even if a singles match with Rollins wasn't the original idea for Breakker, he was presumably going to be showcased in a big way at WrestleMania before the hernia surgery.
