During the summer, Sport insisted on the possibility of the 32-year-old leaving the Bernabeu after entering the final year of his previous deal.
The report indicated Pepe's age stood as a concern for Los Merengues, but Pepe left no room for interpretation regarding his desire to remain with the team in July, per the official Real Madrid website:
"We're very happy, working hard and doing everything the coach asks of us to come into the season in good shape and firing on all cylinders," Pepe said. "We want to get ourselves up to speed as soon as possible."
He's now been rewarded with a one-year extension, and a solid campaign in 2015-16 could help prove Los Blancos concerns regarding his age are unfounded, leading to another potential extension in the future.
Pepe arrived at Real from Porto in 2007 and has since gone on to play more than 280 games for Los Blancos, winning the Champions League, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, a FIFA Club World Cup and more.
The Daily Mirror's John Cross reported in early August Manchester United were interested in a cut-price deal for the defender.
However, ahead of his ninth season with Real, Pepe has chosen to disregard any potential move away from the club, as he looks to add to an already thriving list of accolades in Madrid.
