WWE NXT Results, Winners, Live Grades, Reaction and Highlights From Jan. 20
Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage of WWE NXT on January 20.
All of the focus was on titles this week, as three matches were to determine future title shots and one was for the North American Championship.
Here's a look at what was advertised for Tuesday's NXT:
Let's take a look at everything that happened on this week's episode.
Ethan Page vs. Elio LeFleur
1 of 7
Last time in action: Page lost to Dr. Wagner Jr. (AAA, Dec. 20)
After a video package to hype the show, Ava was shown telling security to keep an eye out for Tony D'Angelo.
The first match of the night saw LeFleur make his NXT debut by challenging Page for the men's North American Championship.
The French Luchador showed off his speed and agility early by taking Page down with a couple of unique moves. All Ego finally stopped him in his tracks with a backbreaker across the top turnbuckle followed by a big boot to send him to the floor.
While we would prefer title matches serve as main events, WWE was smart to open the show with this bout because it brought the energy of the show up right away.
LeFleur looked great in his debut match, and Page was a perfect choice as a veteran who could help bring him into the fold. This guy is only 26 years old, so he is just scratching the surface of what he will be capable of in his career.
They made this a competitive fight that felt like it could go either way. All Ego was able to retain thanks to holding a handful of tights during a rollup, but LeFleur had him reeling. It wouldn't be surprising if WWE kept this feud going.
Result: Page defeated LeFleur
Grade: B+
Notable Moments and Observations
Josh Briggs vs. Shiloh Hill
2 of 7
Last time in action: Briggs defeated Tavion Heights (NXT, Dec. 2), Hill lost to Channing Lorenzo (NXT, Jan. 13)
Two flannel-loving men did battle this week when Hill took on Briggs in a qualifying match for the upcoming six-man Ladder match for the NXT Championship.
They fought for control until Briggs took the upper hand with some clubbing blows to the back. He had the size advantage, so Hill was unable to go punch for punch with him.
They battled through a commercial break and swapped control a few times, but Briggs definitely had the upper hand more often than not.
This was one of those matches that didn't have any bad moments or spots, but it also didn't have anything to make it stand out. It didn't feel like there was as much urgency as there should be for a match that will put the winner in the title hunt.
It looked like Briggs was going to win with a big chokeslam, but Hill kicked out at the last second. The newcomer was able to hit a neckbreaker to score the win. As soon as the match was over, Tony D showed up and laid out both men.
Result: Hill defeated Briggs
Grade: C+
Notable Moments and Observations
Swipe Right vs. Chase U
3 of 7
The next match was a tag bout with Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes taking on Uriah Connors and Kale Dixon.
While not their first appearance, this was The Vanity Project's first official match since being officially signed to NXT, so there was a lot of pressure on them to perform.
All four of these guys are young and hungry, so this was an energetic match with a quick pace and some risky spots. Dixon and Baylor were the standouts with their performances, but all four guys did some good work.
Swipe Right was able to score the victory over Chase U. After the match, Ava was shown backstage saying she called the cops on Tony D.
Result: B
Grade: Swipe Right defeated Chase U
Notable Moments and Observations
Jaida Parker is Back
4 of 7
Keanu Carver from LFG was forced to do a backstage interview, but he walked off before answering any questions. It would have been hilarious if he just said "I'm here so I don't get fined."
Up next was Jaida Parker coming to the ring to give a promo. The crowd cheered her heavily during her entrance and you could tell the love from the fans got to her a bit.
She talked about returning from injury and needing to let her hard work speak for itself. She spoke with emotion and enthusiasm about wanting to prove her doubters wrong while continuing to be true to herself.
The lights dropped and Blake Monroe interrupted from the crow's nest. They talked some trash to each other, but they didn't exactly resolve their conflict.
Parker's promo was strong and probably the best she has delivered since coming to NXT. Her feud with Monroe could be a lot of fun if booked properly.
Grade: B
Notable Moments and Observations
Sean Legacy vs. Eli Knight
5 of 7
Last time in action: Knight lost to Heights (NXT, Dec. 17), Legacy lost to Jackson Drake (NXT, Nov. 25)
Legacy and Knight have both officially moved over from Evolve to NXT, and they were thrown right into the fire with a qualifying match to be in the upcoming Ladder match for the NXT title.
You could tell there was mutual respect between these competitors, and they even looked like tag team partners due to having similar colors on their gear.
Much like Chase U and Swipe Right, these are young performers who are looking to make a big impression early in their run, so Legacy and Knight both put in some hard work to make this an entertaining match.
Both men hit some big spots from the top rope that had the crowd chanting, "This is awesome." Knight went to the well one too many times and Legacy took advantage with a twisting suplex for the pin and the win.
Once again, Tony D showed up and took out both competitors once the match was over. Ava came out with some fake cops who had no badges, but Tony allowed himself to be handcuffed.
Result: Legacy defeated Knight
Grade: B+
Notable Moments and Observations
WrenQCC vs. Fatal Influence vs. ZaRuca
6 of 7
Last time in action: WrenQCC defeated Fatal Influence (NXT, Dec. 16), ZaRuca lost to Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair (SD, Oct. 17)
This week's main event was a three-way tag match with Wren Sinclair and Kendal Grey vs. Zaria and Sol Ruca vs. Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid. The winners would earn a shot at the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championships.
Ruca, Grey and Reid started with an exchange of pinning combinations, but nobody could get the three-count. Zaria tagged in and immediately clotheslined both opponents.
This match had a lot of moving parts, and that led to some sloppy moments, but the majority of the action was good. Ruca and Grey were the standouts, but all six women did solid work.
Jacy Jayne got involved and took out Grey at ringside. Zaria and Ruca were able to get the victory, but not without a little friction along the way.
Result: ZaRuca defeated WrenQCC and Fatal Influence

The Final Word
7 of 7Tuesday's NXT was an eventful show. We saw two more guys qualify for the NXT title ladder match, Tony D was arrested, a few Evolve talents had their first official NXT matches, and we got a couple of good performances along the way.
Legacy and Knight had a fast-paced and high-flying match that put both men on the map, but Page and LeFleur stole the show with their bout.
The main focus of the show was setting up future matches, so it didn't feel like we got anything too newsworthy, but the episode did a good job balancing different priorities.Ā
