James Jones to Giants: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction
The New York Giants bolstered their receiving corps on Thursday, with veteran James Jones telling Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area that he would be signing a one-year deal with the team. The Giants announced the signing on Friday.
“I remember the great year he had, and then last year he caught a number of balls, he led the Oakland team,” Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said, via Michael Elsen of Giants.com. “He’s a veteran receiver, outstanding hands, been in this system, knows the system well, should fit in well, and should compete.

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Jones, 31, was very productive in his one season with the Oakland Raiders, catching 73 passes for 666 yards and six touchdowns. While Jones has never been able to replicate the 14 touchdown passes he caught in 2012 with the Green Bay Packers, he's made a career out of being a reliable No. 3 wide receiver and has tallied at least 600 receiving yards in six of his eight seasons.
That will make him valuable in New York, where Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz are the incumbent starters and Rueben Randle looks like a solid No. 3 option, though Jones will push him for that spot.
Regardless, Jones gives the team excellent depth at the position and can be a veteran mentor for the younger players at the position like Beckham Jr. and Randle.
