Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss Reportedly Agree to New Contract amid Kiffin-LSU Buzz
Having led Mississippi to the College Football Playoff semifinal, Trinidad Chambliss has a deal in place to stay with the Rebels for next season even though he had been connected to Lane Kiffin and LSU as a potential transfer option.
Per Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger, Chambliss and Ole Miss have agreed to terms on a new NIL contract that will keep him in Oxford.
Dellenger added the deal is contingent on Chambliss having his eligibility waiver for a sixth season granted by the NCAA, which Chambliss' father told Dellenger he is "confident" will happen.
Kiffin recently posted on social media that he would like to see Chambliss maintain eligibility for another season.
Other than the discussion around Kiffin's departure from Mississippi prior to the start of the College Football Playoff, the biggest story around the program has been Chambliss' future.
There has been a lot of speculation about a potential Chambliss-LSU deal, especially because of Kiffin.
Beyond the Kiffin connection, it would make sense for the Tigers since they have an unsettled quarterback situation going into next season. Garrett Nussmeier just finished his final year of college eligibility.
LSU's 2026 recruiting class doesn't currently include a quarterback. Most of the top signal-callers who have entered the transfer portal are already committed to a new school, though Sam Leavitt, Byrum Brown and Dylan Raiola are among the notable players still available.
The bigger story for Chambliss right now is getting the NCAA to grant his waiver for next season. ESPN's Pete Thamel said on the Jan. 2 episode of The Pat McAfee Show that the "early inclination" from the NCAA was he wouldn't have his waiver granted, but Chambliss' camp has hired a high-profile attorney to argue on his behalf.
Thamel added that Chambliss would probably be a "top-of-market" quarterback who could expect to earn in the range of $4-5 million next season if he receives the go-ahead from the NCAA.
Chambliss is in his first season at Ole Miss after playing his first four college seasons at Ferris State. He transferred in April and started the season as Austin Simmons' backup.
An injury to Simmons in a Sept. 13 game against Arkansas opened the door for Chambliss to become the starter. He ran with the opportunity, throwing for 3,601 yards, running for 499 yards and accounting for 28 touchdowns in his last 12 games.
Mississippi has defeated Tulane and Georgia in the first two rounds of the College Football Playoff. Chambliss will lead the Rebels in the Fiesta Bowl against Miami on Thursday with a spot in the championship game on the line.
