Mikaela Shiffrin's World Cup Slalom Win Streak Snapped Ahead of 2026 Winter Olympics

Mikaela Shiffrin's streak of World Cup slalom wins came to an end Sunday in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist finished 0.14 seconds behind Switzerland's Camille Rast for second place.

Shiffrin had won six slalom events in a row going back to the 2024-25 season. She most recently got the best of Rast last week in Semmering, Austria.

Unlike in that race, Rast didn't relinquish her lead after the first run. She crossed the line in 50.24 seconds on her opening effort, giving her a 0.10-second cushion on Shiffrin. The 2025 slalom world champion once again posted the best time (49.96) in the second run to deny her American counterpart a seventh straight victory.

"Her skiing is so strong, and it's been building, building, building," Shiffrin said of Rast, per ESPN.com. "The last races she had some mistakes that cost time. And today, how I saw her ski the first run, ah, I had to go 120 percent in order to have a shot. So, it was a big, big, amazing day for her."

It was a big weekend for Rast, who was also the victor in the giant slalom.

She and Shiffrin will have two more World Cup tuneups in the slalom before the 2026 Winter Olympics get underway in Italy. Flachau, Austria, will host the next event on Jan. 13 before the top skiers head to the Czech Republic on Jan. 25.

Despite Sunday's setback, Shiffrin maintains a 120-point lead on Rast in the overall World Cup standings.
