Indiana led Alabama 24-0 at the time Mack entered the contest in the third quarter and went on to win 38-3.
Simpson went 12-of-16 for 67 yards prior to his departure. He also rushed for 17 yards on three attempts.
As for Mack, he previously appeared in three games this season. He completed 81.3 percent of his throws for 125 yards and two touchdowns without tossing an interception, adding a third score on the ground.
Mack was listed as the No. 16 quarterback prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.
He committed to Washington as part of Kalen DeBoer's final recruiting class with the Huskies before following DeBoer to Alabama after he took over as head coach of the Crimson Tide in 2024.
247Sports' Brandon Huffman highlighted Mack's arm talent in his scouting report.
"He has impressed evaluators with a live arm and the ability to make NFL caliber throws look somewhat effortless," Huffman wrote. "Although you can drop Mack in the 'developmental upside' box, the California native's stats tell a different story in eleven appearances this season."
Mack previously expressed his excitement about seeing extended action.
"I've been putting in the work for a long time now," Mack said Tuesday, via Rodak. "I know I'm ready for the moment. I know I'm ready as a quarterback, so whenever I get the opportunity to kind of just show what I can do."
The signal-caller still has two years of eligibility remaining.
