Mike Tyson Announces Floyd Mayweather Fight Location, Date for Historic Bout
Legendary boxers Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are set to meet in an exhibition match in 2026, and new details have emerged about their upcoming showdown.
Tyson revealed on Sunday that his fight against Mayweather will take place in Africa in March.
"It's going to be in March and it's going to be in Africa. This is going to be incredible," Tyson said. "We're going to break all the records. It's going to be one of the biggest events in the history of the sport."
TMZ reported in September that Tyson and Mayweather agreed to face each other in the spring of 2026. Tyson promoted the fight on social media with a custom graphic:
Tyson said later that month that it was Mayweather who came up with the idea for their fight. Since it's an exhibition, Mayweather's 50-0 record won't be on the line.
"I wasn't bothering nobody. He just wanted to pick a fight," Tyson told DAZN. "This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable, and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets. I still can't believe Floyd wants to really do this."
Tyson most recently fought Jake Paul in November 2024, losing a unanimous decision. The fight was sanctioned despite a 31-year age gap between Paul and Tyson, who is now 59 years old.
Mayweather will be the younger fighter at 48 years old. His last appearance in the ring was in August 2024 when he fought John Gotti III in an eight-round exhibition that went the distance without a winner declared at the end.
Fans will certainly tune in to see two of the best boxers ever face each other, and Tyson and Mayweather will be looking to turn back the clock with a vintage performance.
