Jeter Finally Becomes Yankees All-Time Hits Leader 2,723!
Dedrick HendrixSep 12, 2009
Derek Jeter remains one of the best players in baseball. He is batting .331, better than all but three players in the American League. He is enjoying his finest defensive season in years. He is a star on a team primed to blast into the postseason. And he is setting records -- legendary records. When Jeter recorded his 2,722nd hit on Friday, passing Lou Gehrig for the most in franchise history, he set a mark that even the greatest players in Yankees' history could not attain.
Fittingly, the record-setter occurred in a most typical Jeter style. Hitting a Chris Tillman pitch past diving Orioles first baseman Luke Scott, Jeter singled to lead off the third and stand alone atop the franchise's all-time hits list.
